Accessible from two internaitonal airports Badacsony is located on the north shore of Lake Balaton, right in the heart of Hungary’s famous wine region

By plane

The nearest international airports are Budapest Ferenc Liszt (BUD) and Vienna International (VIE). Travel time is around 2 hours from Budapest or 3 hours from Vienna, both offering convenient connections to Lake Balaton.

By train

Regular direct trains run from Budapest Déli Station to Badacsonytomaj, taking about 2.5 hours. Enjoy a relaxed journey with great views of the Hungarian countryside and Lake Balaton along the way.

By car

Badacsony lies about 180 km from Budapest and 220 km from Vienna. The drive takes roughly 2.5 to 3 hours, following scenic routes through Hungary’s famous wine region.

FROM VIENNA

If you’re driving from Vienna to Badacsony, expect to pay a cross-border fee on some rental cars and plan ahead for highway tolls, which are paid via the Hungarian e-vignette. A 10-day e-vignette for a standard passenger car costs around 6,400 Ft (≈€17) and can be purchased online.

FROM BUDAPEST

If you are driving from Budapest, the trip to Badacsony is a bit quicker. Before picking up your rental car, check whether toll fees or the Hungarian e-vignette are included. If not, you’ll need to purchase the vignette separately to use highways like the M7 safely and legally.
